Recording your voice

Tips to record your voice and sound convincing

1) Remember to use Google Translation to check pronunciation, but also intonation and pace.

2) Use the English-speakers in the videos you watch as models to get the message across and make what you say sound convincing and even more interesting.

Notice how passionate Jameela Jamil is about the issue of body positivitiy. When you listen to Jameela Jamil speaking, don't hesitate to pause and listen whenever you like a sentence and the way she says it. Focus on your flow, like a rap artist would.

Vary the pace, make key words pop up.

3) It may help you to talk in front of a mirror when you rehearse and when you record your voice - Try to convince yourself first

4) Learning what you want to say by heart helps will also you make it sound more convincing, you'll find your own voice and your own flow.

5) Focus on long vowel sounds.

French people tend to make long vowel sounds too short. In fact, a long vowel sound is never too long, especially diphthongs when you start from one sound and glide to another sound, for example : /ai/ a ----> i

6) Check the pronunciation of key words you want to use: listen and repeat, listen and repeat, listen and repeat, until you feel you've got it, until you don't even have to think about it.

Sometimes, you can hear the difference with what you're saying but you can't do it: Relax and try again. It's about accepting a new sound that you're not used to saying in French, training your brain, your mouth /th/ and your body /h/ to produce new sounds.

7) Listen to pronunciation lessons on mmmenglish! on YouTube, subscribe to BBC Learning English. Dan answers Learners' Questions and he's the best and Tim's Pronunciation Workshop is great!
